Pastime
(2006)
Pastime is part of Interval,
a project where one representative from each
year (between 10 and 60) repeats their age for a period in
minutes equal to their age (for example, a 50 year old repeats
the number 50 for 50 minutes).
Pastime features pairs that rhyme (eg. twenty-seven and fifty-seven) and have a significant age gap.
For the image component, the younger is slowed down to the
length of the older, and the older is sped up to the length
of the younger. The audio is kept as is, thus the image and
sound are out of sync.
First presentation in at the Leonard & Bina Ellen Gallery, Concordia University,
Montréal, as part of CUT (with Jocelyn Robert and Raymond
Gervais), curated by Michèle Thériault. Exhibition
runs October 19 - November 25, 2006.

PASTIME (27-57)

(Félix Philantrope / Glynis Humphrey)
The image portion of a 27 minute clip is slowed down
to 57 minutes; a 57 minute clip is sped up to last 27. The audio speed
of either clip is not altered, it therefore plays back out of sync with
the image.

PASTIME (20-50)
The image portion of a 20 minute clip is slowed down
to 50 minutes; a 50 minute clip is sped up to last 20. The audio speed
of either clip is not altered, it therefore plays back out of sync with
the image.
